Biodiesel is the name of a variety of fuels made from vegetable or animal fats.
The concept of using vegetable oil as a fuel dates back to 1895 when Dr. Rudolf Diesel developed the first diesel engine which used peanut oil as a fuel.
Biodiesel can be made from domestically produced, renewable oilseed crops such as soybeans, canola, rapeseed, safflower, mustard seed and cotton seed.
Biodiesel can run in any diesel engine without modification and can be mixed with diesel fuel in any ratio. We are using a 20% blend which is referred to as "B20"
Biodiesel is a clean burning fuel that reduces exhaust emissions.
Bioethanol is also a renewable fuel that can come from sugar and plant starches found in corn, sugar beets and other energy crops or by-products of agriculture or forestry products.
Bioethanol is also a clean burning fuel that dramatically reduces vehicle emissions.
Bioethanol needs a fuel additive to allow it to be blended with diesel.
A company by the name of 0²Diesel located in Newark, Delaware makes the additive that we will be using to cross blend these two clean and renewable fuels which is an industry first.
Our blend will be: 71.6% Diesel. 20% Bio, 7.7% Ethanol and .7% 0²Diesel additive. All blending will be done by our fuel supplier at their terminal.
We expect to see no difference in the performance of our vehicles. We do expect to see better cold weather starting, less smoke and reduced emissions while using 28% less fossil fuel.
