Route 2X Access Improvements

Route 2X is being reviewed to improve how easy and safe it is for people to reach bus stops from nearby homes, workplaces, and destinations. The study highlights two priority areas where improvements could make the biggest difference. These areas were chosen based on the types of upgrades that may be possible. A brief overview of each area is provided below:

Route 2X Focus Areas:

These areas are being reviewed to improve safety and make it easier for people to get around. In some places, changes are being considered because of past vehicle or pedestrian accidents. In other areas, the goal is to make walking to and from bus stops more comfortable and convenient by adding features such as better sidewalks and safer street crossings. All proposed ideas are still being evaluated and would only move forward with agreement from all parties involved.

**** Area 1 – Downtown Richland includes a more convenient placement of the stop pair on Swift Boulevard near Northgate Drive, intended to better align the stop with the flashing beacon crossing and provide easier boarding by converting the existing parking bay into a dedicated bus stop.

**** Area 2 – Columbia Basin College includes improvements to the stop on 20th Avenue at Sun Willows Boulevard: the southbound bus stop will be moved closer to the intersection and see a new bus shelter built; based on crash history, the intersection’s signal timing will be changed to prevent conflicts between pedestrians crossing 20th Avenue and vehicles turning left onto 20th Avenue.
